The Fieldston School and the Mount Sinai Health System have partnered up to provide our student-athletes with the highest possible standard in evidence-based concussion care. The Charles Lazarus Children’s Abilities Center at Mount Sinai has developed a school-based Play Safety concussion program to address some of the gaps in care that often occur in the world of concussion, specifically for adolescents. We understand that after a concussion occurs, there is often a lot of anxiety and second-guessing about how to best manage your child’s care. Our goal through the Play Safety program is to ensure that Fieldston students are never far away from a concussion expert who can provide answers and a clear care plan for moving forward. Should your child sustain a concussion and you would like to schedule an appointment for Mount Sinai's pediatric concussion rehabilitation program, please email us at concussion@mountsinai.org
As of August 2021, all of our Fieldston athletes will have the opportunity to be screened by the Play Safety team prior to the start of the sports season in order to establish a baseline of brain health and function. This allows both the Fieldston and Mount Sinai teams to gain a picture of your child’s general brain health on a regular day prior to any injury. Should your child sustain a concussion during the athletic season, these measures can be repeated and compared to the baseline information to better inform the healthcare team’s recovery care plans. This baseline and post-injury information can be provided on-demand to your child’s pediatrician, specialist, or coach so that all members of your child’s care team feel better prepared to provide your child with the highest possible standard of care.
In addition to safety monitoring and medical care, we believe that good education is crucial to ensuring that our students receive the care and support that they need. That’s why the team at Mount Sinai will also be providing regular concussion education sessions for students, parents, and educators as part of the Play Safety program. These sessions will be scheduled throughout the year by the team at Fieldston.
